Round 13 Midweek Results

Midweek Results Thirteenth Round

The penultimate round of the Midweek comp has been completed and, unfortunately, no Rosanna side will be able to feature in the finals.  Although there is still one round to be played the points difference which might get a side into fourth place, is too wide for us to bridge the gap.  The First side had a glimmer of hope, but it meant top side Fitzroy-Victoria had to beat fourth placed Ivanhoe today, and they did not, so even if Ivanhoe were scoreless in the last game, and Rosanna scored a maximum 16 points, we would fall 3 points short.  Two of our three sides won today, however, it is not enough to make a showing in a fortnight hence.

The First side travelled to Craigieburn and early on it was a very even showing.  As the day progressed the early lunch bell brought a halt to proceedings, but the break was good for the Go-annas.  After lunch the shackles were off, and although Jim Gregory, John Aldridge, Graeme Bravo and Kay Plain played a good game, their opponents managed to eke out a six shot win, 16 -22.  Warren Williams, John Head, Colin Watson and Robin Doherty, were strong all day and held the upper hand.  They went on to a 13 shot win, 29 – 16.  Don Casey, Kevin Meade, Chris Ball and Gwenda Bail, played alternate ends with their opponents.  Bowling away from the clubhouse was Rosanna up, bowling back to the clubhouse was Craigieburn up.  At lunch the Prez’s rink was one down, 13 – 14.  That was enough and after the break Rosanna kept the opposition to 2 shots whilst they scored 18.  31 – 16.  The 14 points gained from the win were not enough to lift the ones into the four, given the results of other games within the section.

Rosanna 76, Craigieburn 54

The Second side played Heidelberg Golf, who were above them on the ladder, at home and had a very good win with all rinks up.  It was an excellent effort as there were four changes to the side from the previous week, one as late as this morning.  Glenn Lyons, Ed Sheean, Neil Cooper and Kevin Nelson fought out a tight game and came home a 4 shot winner, 22 – 18.  James Inifer, Bruce Lankford, Rob Barclay and Alan Phillips, had a very good 16 shot victory, 28 – 12 and probably thought they were a chance for the drink vouchers,  But, who should spoil the party?  Why, none other than Leo Bosso, Paul Gregory, Joan Webber and Jack Dunbar, who went one better with a 17 shot win, 27 – 10.  It is a shame that we were so far out of the four with a performance like that.

Rosanna 77, Heidelberg Golf 40.

The Third side did it hard against MCC at home, and were unable to get a rink up.  However, it was not for the want of trying, and our team kept the losing margins below double digits on each rink.  Russell Hyde, Bob Graham, Tony Bassett and Ken Barr gave up 8 shots, 20 – 28.  Gae Messina, Fotini Hughes, Marj Martyn and Terrye Meade, gave up 7 shots, 15 – 22.  Paul Bassett, John Mydlar, Heather Manton and Noel Broadhurst, gave up 6 shots, 17 – 23.

Rosanna 52, MCC 73.

The Best Winning Rink went to Leo Bosso, Paul Gregory, Joan Webber and Jack Dunbar, with 17 shots in the ascendancy.

Milestones today were Robin Doherty 400 club games, and Glenn Lyons 200 Midweek games.  Well done boys and we are looking forward to seeing you propel many, many more well aimed projectiles before it is all done.

One week to go, and although there will be no finals glory this year, we can finish on a high note by getting all three teams home next Tuesday.  And before I go I would just like for you to remember – where there is a will – there is a relative.

Keep smilin’ and bowl well.

The Tout.
