The Section Three Grand Final for Division 6, was played on Saturday at Lalor Bowling Club, between Wallan 2, and Rosanna 3. It was the fourth meeting for the season between these two clubs, having played twice during the season, and twice during the finals. Wallan had won each of the previous three games, and unfortunately for Rosanna, made it a clean sweep in the GF.
Even though it was a disappointing loss for Rosanna, they have done very well in a difficult season, and have earned the right of promotion to Division Five, by finishing second in the section.
Rosanna Bowling Club congratulates all players who had a part in the promotion, through their playing in the team at some stage during the season. Well done to all of you for your contribution, no matter how big, or how small. It was a valuable element in the team achieving the success that it did, and the Club is proud of you.
Once again the day was not without its little piece of drama, when long time member Diane Lamplugh, who was at the match supporting the players, and particularly Jack Dunbar, was overcome by heat, and an ambulance had to be called. It was very concerning for everyone, especially Jack, and he withdrew from the game. Peter Bell stepped in as reserve to finish out the match. Thankfully Di recovered after expert attention from the ambos, and was able to return home under her own steam.
Bob Dunbar, Alan Phillips, Simon Matthews and Leo Bosso, 13-26, -13.
Paul Bassett, Ralph Moulden, Gary Veale and Glen Lyons, 18-25, -7.
Noel Broadhurst, Ray Prestney, Denis Swift and Brian Tipping, 17-26, -9.
Jack Dunbar, Robin Doherty, Jane Edgcumbe and Bec Merrick, 16-30, -14.
Rosanna 64, Wallan 107, -43.
So, that’s the season for the Weekend Pennant. The First side will hold their spot in Division Two. The Third side will be promoted to Division Five. The Second side will be relegated to Division Five. That means two sides in Div 5, but playing in different sections. Depending on how Bowls Victoria structures things for next season, the Fourth side may be relegated to Division Seven.
As far as the Pennant season goes, Rosanna now has one side left to contest a Grand Final, and that will be on Tuesday, 11 March, when our Midweek Pennant Third side, will play off against Kingsbury 3, at Bundoora Bowling Club. The sides played twice during the season, with two wins going to Rosanna by 5 and 10 shots respectively. It should be another closely fought, and keen game. Please come along and lend your support.
Keep ’em rolling.
The Lizard.
