This last weekend saw the return bout with Thornbury Bowling club – a very nice group of people. Once again the First side played on Friday night, this time at Thornbury, whilst on Saturday the Two’s played at home, and the Three’s travelled to Thornbury.
Friday night’s inclement weather caused the score cards to go amiss, so I cannot convey the final results, however, two snippets of information that surfaced were that Alan Mason’s rink came back from the dead to just get over the line, and Rowan Sharp’s rink dropped a 5 (not as bad as Casey’s 7 in the first stanza, but bad enough). But it was only practice, on a brand new synthetic, and a miserable night weatherwise.
The Two’s had the luxury of playing home and each rink had completed about 10 ends when the weather plunged its dagger and the game was called off. At the time of conclusion the following was showing on the scoreboard:
C Ball, N Carriero, K Plain, G Lyons 22 – 2
G Bail, C Watson, K Meade, D Casey 16 – 2
R Doherty, J Dunbar, I Crawford, M Hadley 16 – 5
R Dunbar, G Bright, G Bravo, L Bosso 6 – 12
The Three’s were a bit like the First side in that their score cards went missing except for the “Comeback Kid” John Head. He finished up with only three players in his rink, but managed to have the opposition 15 – 1 when the festivities ceased in the early afternoon.
It has been a bit difficult to try and settle sides with a number of players unavailable, however, it must be expected at this time of the season. Hopefully everyone will be available in a fortnight’s time, and we can get 5 sides on the greens for the commencement of the season.
Meanwhile, keep practicing those skills, and for those of you playing in the Triples next Saturday, best of luck.
Keep ’em rolling.
The Lizard.
