Round Twelve Weekend Pennant

Hello Bowlers,

What a difference a week can make.  Rosanna was looking good with three sides in the four and one which looked like it might struggle to make it.  After this week’s results the Firsts are in third spot, the Seconda have jumped back to 5th only 6 points behind 4th placed Eltham, the Thirds are in 2nd place, and the Fourths have dropped out to 5th spot.  Two rounds to play and it is a very open book, however, we still have a big chance of our four sides making finals.  Keep the nose to the grindstone Goannas.

Yesterday was not without its dramas by any stretch,  Two late changes twelve hours apart on Friday, left Rosanna with no spare players and fingers crossed.  When everyone turned up to play there was a quiet sigh of relief from the Match Committee.  BUT, the Second side were in their huddle just before the roll up, and Nicole Carriero became ill.  An ambulance was called and play was delayed.  Ian Crawford was spotted in the crowd, and a conversation ensued resulting in Ian, bad back and all, offering to step in so as not to compromise the rink by playing one short.  Ian survived the day (although we don’t know how he will be over the next couple of days) and the rink won by 26 shots, helping Rosanna to an overall win.  The ambos took very good care of Nicole, who recovered and stoically remained at the club to support her rink and team.  Well done to both Ian and Nicole, your actions were very much appreciated indeed.  And thanks too to Kevin Nelson who took a call late Friday night to step up and play at Strathmore, even though he is entertaining a guest from the UK.  And so, to the day’s doings.

First side went to Hurstbridge and had a hard day.  Only one rink up earning two points, but keeping the side in the four at third spot.

Margaret Hunt, Chris Ball, Warren Williams and Alan Mason, 16-9, +7.

Dan Hartrick, Debbie Jeong, Rowan Sharp and Marcus Hadley, 15-17, -2.

Matty Ferguson, Kevin Meade, Damian Crea and Damian Jardine, 7-21, -14.

Mil Crea, Peter Burke, Peter Livingstone and Rod Kerrison, 9-25, -16.

Rosanna 47, Hurstbridge 71, -24, 2 points, 3rd on ladder 118 points.  Next week play Eltham 1, 5th 110 points, at Rosanna.

The Second side who were on the bottom of the ladder in 8th spot, hosted East Ivanhoe who had won their last couple of games and were sitting 5th.  Despite all the pre-game drama, the Twos rose to the occasion and due to two rinks having very good wins, the side greeted the judge and jumped back into 5th place, only 6 points out of the four.  With a win next week they would be in the four.

Gwenda Bail, Colin Watson, John Aldridge and Don Casey, 31-14, +17.

Ray Prestney, Ian Crawford, Steve Kovac and Jeff Cook, 35-9, +26.

John Couling, Fiona Tennant, Kay Plain and Jim Gregory, 14-33, -19.

Tim Pullyblank, Veronika Crea, Graham Bright and John Head, 11-21, -10.

Rosanna 91, East Ivanhoe 77, +14, 14 points, 5th on ladder 102 points.  Next week play Eltham 2, 4th 108 points, at Eltham.

The Third side went over to Strathmore and had a very good day with all rinks up, earning a valuable 18 points, something that had not been achieved since the 4th side managed it in Round 5.

Noel Broadhurst, Terrye Meade, Simon Matthews and Leo Bosso, 34-25, +9.

Kevin Nelson, Rob Barclay, Ralph Moulden and Glenn Lyons, 22-13, +9.

Paul Bassett, Denis Swift, Gary Veale and Brian Tipping, 21-19, +2.

Jack Dunbar, Robin Doherty, Jane Edgcumbe and Bec Merrick, 21-16, +5.

Rosanna 98, Strathmore 73, +25, 18 points, 2nd on ladder 111 points.  Next week play Broadmeadows 2, 5th 74 points, at Rosanna.

The Fourth side hosted Templestowe and found the going a bit hard, only managing one rink up, and as a result slipping out of the four into 5th spot.

Trevor Robertson, Alan Phillips, Russell Hyde and Paul Gregory, 21-16, +5.

Lorraine Campbell, John Tannock, Gae Messina and Colin McDonald, 19-20, -1.

Tony Canty, Michelle Robertson, Luke Roche and Eddie Sheean, 14-23, -9.

Corey Quilliam, Kale Files, Peter Bell and Bruce McDonald, 15-30, -15.

Rosanna 69, Templestowe 89, -20, 2 points, 5th on ladder 100 points.  Next week play Box Hill RSL 2, 6th on 89 points, at Box Hill RSL.

Well people, our fate is in our own hands and we will take on the next couple of weeks with positivity I’m sure.  See you next week.

And something for you to ponder as you head into next week – I used to be indecisive, but now I’m not so sure.

Keep ’em rolling.

Well, here we go. The final home and away game for the 2024-25 season. But it is never too late to stop doing the same over and over if you are not getting the different result you hoped to achieve. Bad habit means many tend to make the same mistakes over and over...
