Hello Bowlers,
Well, it was an interesting weekend with only the First Side having a win, the Two’s, Three’s and Four’s all losing, and the Fifth Side having to give a walkover due to the unavailability of several players for a variety of reasons. However, we will soldier on.
The First Side played at home hosting Montmorency. With two rinks up and two down, Rosanna was able to manage a comfortable 27 shot victory, with Alan Mason’s rink shutting out the opposition by 23 shots, and Damien Jardine’s rink contributing an extra 2 points with a 9 shot victory. This has put the team in 5th position on the ladder with 28 points, 4 behind Diamond Creek on 32. Next Saturday the One’s play Bundoora, at Bundoora, who are in 7th possie on 20 points. Not a lot in it at this stage, but an away win would boost our stocks.
Margaret Hunt, Veronika Crea, Warren Williams and Alan Mason 31 – 8, plus 23, AND these four players have joined the exclusive 8 Pin Club courtesy their efforts on Saturday. Not only did they score an 8, but they were the best winning rink of the day. And to add to that Margaret Hunt played her 150th Weekend game for Rosanna. Big day for the four, and big congratulations, you have something to brag about.
The rink of Fiona Tennant (a late replacement into the side), Dan Hartrick, Peter Livingstone and Rowan Sharp were unfortunate in going down by one shot, 17 – 18.
Matty Ferguson, Kevin Meade (another replacement in the team), Marcus Hadley and Damian Jardine, perservered and won by 9 shots in a good effort, 23 – 14.
Mil Crea, Robbie Boxshall, Damian Crea and Rod Kerrison fought hard, however, came up short by 4 shots, 20 – 24.
All in all Rosanna collected 14 points with their 91 – 64 win over Mont.
The Second Side went to Kingsbury and found the conditions a bit trying, only managing one winning rink and collecting only 2 points. It puts them in 6th spot on the ladder with 20 points, Greensborough (22) and Eltham (25) immediately above them. Next week they face off at home against Bundoora, who are 2nd on 36 points.
Gwenda Bail, Chris Ball, Colin Watson and Don Casey, 18 -22, minus 4.
Debbie Jeong, Nicole Carriero, Steve Kovac and Jeff Cook, 18 – 25, minus 7.
Louisa Hemingway, Michelle Robertson (a late inclusion), Peter Burke and Jim Gregory, 25 – 17, plus 8 (well done).
Graeme Bravo, John Couling, Graham Bright and John Head, 16 – 22, minus 6.
Rosanna 77, Kingsbury 86, Minus 9.
The Third Side played at home against Wallan, and after a good tussle, went down by 8 shots. They did collect 2 points along the way and are placed in second spot on the ladder, with their opponent of the day holding top spot on percentage only. Both teams are on 34 points. Next week Rosanna has a bye. The good thing about that is that we should be able to get the Fifth Side on the green.
Neil Andrewartha, Ray Prestney, Kay Plain and Leo Bosso, 22 – 17, 5 shots up.
Robin Doherty, Dawn Quilliam (a late replacement), Ralph Moulden and Glenn Lyons, 18 – 29, minus 11.
Bob Dunbar, Paul Bassett, Simon Matthews and Brian Tipping, very stiff to go down by 1 shot, 16 -17.
Also very stiff to go down by 1 shot with the same score, 16 – 17, were Tim Pulleyblank, Denis Swift, Gae Messina and Jane Edgcumbe.
Rosanna 72, Wallan 80, minus 8.
The Fourth Side went to Donvale and not only met stiff opposition, but had to contend with a green invasion by a snake. It obviously put us off as we had only one winning rink to eke 2 points from the game, however, we have managed to secure third spot on the ladder with 32 points, three behind Doncaster. Next week we will host Camberwell Central at home, who are in 7th spot on 20 points.
Lorraine Campbell, Terrye Meade, Russell Hyde and Paul Gregory, 12 – 31, minus 19.
Noel Broadhurst, Trevor Robertson, Kale Files and Colin McDonald, 19 – 16, plus 3.
Ray Lundberg, Cory Quilliam, Aileen Lundberg and Luke Roche, 14 -36, minus 22.
Tony Canty, Alan Phillips, Peter Bell and Bruce McDonald, 14 – 26, minus 12.
Rosanna 59, Donvale 109, minus 50.
As mentioned, the Fifth Side had to give Lalor a walkover, and we currently sit in 7th spot with 16 points. Next Saturday we play West Coburg who are also struggling to field a team and are in 8th spot with 0 points, so it will be interesting to see what pans out.
I have mentioned Milestones and Best Winning Rink earlier in this blurb, so I won’t repeat myself. So,
Keep ’em rolling.
