Round Two Saturday Pennant

Hello Bowlers,

Round 2 is now a memory and what’s been done has been done, however, we should write it up for posterity’s sake, and to keep the record straight.

I am told it was a bit of a hassle finally finalising the third and fourth sides, as the availability of some players was a little unclear, and the very late withdrawals due to illness, was unforseen.  It was probably fortunate in some respects that the fifth side did not have the numbers to take the field, however, some of those remaining slotted into the fourths to fill the gaps, allowing us to put four competitive sides onto the greens to do battle.

The first side unfortunately, had a bit of a stinker at Greensborough, with no winning rink to earn points for the Club.

Margaret Hunt, Veronika Crea, Warren Williams and Alan Mason, went down by 5 shots 17 – 22

Ian Crawford, Dan Hartrick, Peter Livingstone and Rowan Sharp, were 4 shots in the red, 16 – 20

Matty Ferguson, John Aldridge, Marcus Hadley and Damian Jardine, were 11 shots in arrears, 17 – 28

Mil Crea, Robbie Boxshall, Damian Crea and Rod Kerrison were 15 shots down, 12 – 27

Overall score Rosanna 62, ‘Borough 97, 35 shots down.

Whilst it was not a result we would have wished for, we know the sun will rise tomorrow and we will look to a big performance against Montmorency at home next week.

The second side played at home against Montmorency and snared 16 points in a reasonably even game all day.  I am told the highlight of the day was provided by John Head’s rink.  They went five ends at the start of the day without registering a score, but over the next eight ends they gradually reined in their opponents, then on the very last end when it all counted, they hit the front to win by one shot.  Again, it shows what you can do if you just keep at it.  Well done indeed.

Gwenda Bail, Colin Watson, Kevin Meade and Don Casey 17 – 19, 2 down

Debbie Jeong, Nicole Carriero, Steve Kovac and Jeff Cook 24 – 16, plus 8

Chris Ball, Fiona Tennant, Peter Burke and Jim Gregory, 24 – 18, plus 6

Jack Dunbar, Robin Doherty, Graeme Bravo and John Head, 19 – 18, plus 1

Overall score Rosanna 84, Mont 71, 13 shots up.

The third side went to Kingsbury and had a very good day at the away venue.  Very stiff to not grab maximum points, with one rink going down only by the barest of margins.

Kale Files, Ray Prestney, Kay Plain and Leo Bosso had a very even battle, but prevailed by 2 shots, 18 – 16

Alan Phillips, Michelle Robertson, Ralph Moulden and Glenn Lyons won by a comfortable 11 shots, 24 – 13

Bob Dunbar, Paul Bassett, Simon Matthews and Brian Tipping blitzed with a 21 shot win, 28 – 7

Trevor Robertson, Tim Pullyblank, Jane Edgcumbe and Bec Merrick just missed a win going down by 1 shot, 19 – 20

Overall score Rosanna 89, Kingsbury 56, 33 shots up and 16 points.

Which brings us to the fourth side who were our star performers for the day.  They had a bit of a patched up side, however, that was not going to deter their substantial effort against the visiting Doncaster team, and even though they were one rink down, they ground the opposition into a 37 shot submission, grabbing 16 points along the way.

Lorraine Campbell, Terrye Meade, Russell Hyde and Paul Gregory, 24 – 14, plus 10

Noel Broadhurst, Kevin Nelson, John Tannock and Colin McDonald, 16 -24, minus 8

Ray Lundberg (great to see him on the green again), Cory Quilliam (a very, very late but welcome call up), Aileen Lundberg and Luke Roche, 26 – 17 , plus 9

Tony Canty, Gae Messina, Peter Bell and Bruce McDonald, smashed ’em 33 – 7, a whopping 26 shots up

Overall Rosanna 99, D’caster 62

There were only two Milestones this weekend, but both very worthy in their achievement.  Peter Burke notched up his 50th Saturday pennant game, and Tony Canty chalked up his 300th Saturday pennant game.  Well done to both of these gentlemen.

Best winning rink of the day went to Bruce McDonald’s rink, with Tony Canty leading, Gae Messina second and Jane Edgcumbe third.  A stunning 26 shots up.  Congratulations and well done.

Next weekend the ones host Montmorency, the threes, Wallan and if we can field a fifth side, Lalor.  The twos will visit Kingsbury, and the fours will go to Donvale.  Best of luck to all sides.

Keep ’em rolling.
