Hello Bowlers,
Well, what a week it has been. I understand the Match Committee has been kept busy with selections, changes, late pull outs, shuffling teams, and so on, however, four of the five teams still made it onto the greens, only to be confronted by extreme weather conditions heatwise, which caused plenty of disruption to games because the temperature crept above 36 degrees, would drop back, only to rise again until finally dropping back to a point where the game could be completed, except for the Third side who went to Broadmeadows, where it was called off and both sides earned 9 points.
I am told that Paul Gregory’s rink in the Fourth side had to play one short because there was nobody left to fill in, after a very early Saturday morning pull out. To their credit they beat their opponent, giving the side the only 2 points they earned for the day.
Coincidentally, Paul’s dad, Jim, lost one of his players to illness before they reached the half way mark in their game, and battled on to go down by only 3 shots.
The Third and Fourth sides started their matches at 11:00am to try and beat the heat. Unfortunately Broadmeadows were not enamored with the heat, and called the game off at a time where Rosanna held a 6 shot advantage, so the points were shared. The Fourth side were able to complete their game at home.
The First and Second sides both played Eltham, who did not want the early start and took their chances on being “heated” out. They were anyway as both the Rosanna sides had very solid wins, albeit with numerous interruptions.
The First side went to Eltham and secured a three rink, 22 shots up win, giving them 16 points and strengthening their spot in the four.
Margaret Hunt, Veronika Crea, Warren Williams and Alan Mason, 23 – 21, plus 2.
Dan Hartrick, John Aldridge, Peter Livingstone and Rowan Sharp, 17 – 29, minus 12.
Matty Ferguson, Kevin Meade, Damian Crea and Damian Jardine, 19 – 15, plus 4.
Mil Crea, Peter Burke, Marcus Hadley and Rod Kerrison, 35 -7 blitzed, plus 28.
Rosanna 94, Eltham 72, plus 22, 16 points, 2nd on ladder with 74 points.
Next week play Diamond Creek, 1st on ladder on 80 points, at Rosanna.
The Second side hosted Eltham 2, and put their own burners on to increase the heat, leaving their opponents shivering in the cold. Three rinks and 34 shots up, sees the Twos improve their ladder position to 5th with 55 points. Next week they travel to Templestowe, who are 4th on 58 points. It should be an interesting contest.
Gwenda Bail, Jack Dunbar, Colin Watson and Don Casey, 34 – 11, plus 23.
Debbie Jeong, Nicole Carriero, Steve Kovac and Jeff Cook, 29 -19, plus 10.
Fiona Tennant, Ray Prestney, Kay Plain and Jim Gregory, 17 -20, minus 3.
Graeme Bravo, Tim Pullyblank, Graham Bright and John Head, 21 -17, plus 4.
Rosanna 101, Eltham 67, plus 34, 16 points, 5th on ladder with 55 points.
The Third side went to Broadmeadows and were heated out after about 30 something ends had been completed. At the time Rosanna was holding a 6 shot advantage. The 9 points earned places the team 3rd on the ladder with 57 points. Next week they face off against Epping RSL 2, at home. Epping are 5th with 39 points.
Neil Andrewartha, Terrye Meade, Simon Matthews and Leo Bosso, 14 -5.
Trevor Robertson, Gary Veale, Gae Messina and Ralph Moulden, 7 – 12.
Noel Broadhurst, Paul Bassett, Denis Swift and Brian Tipping, 9 – 8.
Robin Doherty, Bob Dunbar, Jane Edgcumbe and Bec Merrick, 9 – 8.
Rosanna 39, Broadmeadows 33, 9 points, 3rd on ladder with 57 points.
The Fourth side started with a disadvantage being one player short due to a very late unavailability in the Third side, and not having the personnel to fill the gap. They put up a good performance in trying conditions, but were not strong enough to overcome their opponents. The loss sees them in 3rd place on 56 points, and next week visiting Auburn, 1st on 88 points.
Gerry Sheean, Russell Hyde and Paul Gregory, 18 – 14, plus 4.
Lorraine Campbell, Tony Canty, Kale Files and Colin McDonald, 13 – 22, minus 9.
Cory Quilliam, John Tannock, Eddie Sheean and Luke Roche, 10 – 18.
Kevin Nelson, Alan Phillips, Peter Bell and Bruce McDonald, 12 – 16, minus 4.
Rosanna 53, Box Hill RSL 70, minus 17, 2 points, 3rd on ladder 56 points.
Well done everyone getting through a tough Saturday. Your efforts are appreciated.
Best Winning Rink was Mil Crea, Peter Burke, Marcus Hadley and Rod Kerrison with a magnificent 28 shots up.
The Milestones this weekend were Noel Broadhurst, 350 weekend games, Robin Doherty, 250 weekend games, Marcus Hadley, 50 weekend games and Simon Matthews, 150 Club games. Well done to you people and may there be many more games to come.
So, that wraps another week of bowling.
And here is something for you to ponder – if I agreed with you, we’d both be wrong.
Keep ’em rolling.
