Hello Bowlers,
Well the half-way mark of the season has been reached with three of Rosanna’s sides in the four, and one sitting in 6th spot, but not without a chance of making it four out of four. It is, I think, a credit to the Club given the large number of unavailabilities each week, which causes no end of angst to the long suffering selectors, let alone skippers who contend with changing rinks every week. Of the 16 rinks that take to the greens on a Saturday, I am told, only one has gone through the first half without a change to it. The remaining 15 rinks have experienced a total of 82 changes between them up to this point. In fact the numbers are so large that the Club had to pull the Fifth side out of the competition as it could not field a team on any of the seven Saturdays of the season so far. It is hoped that it will settle in the second half, and the four teams can go full bore for a place in the finals.
So, given it is the half-way point, I asked the club Statistician if he could give me a bit of a picture of how things were progressing with each rink (the skippers being the one constant this season), and he provided the following:
Alan Mason, 5w/2l, 167/123, +54.
Rowan Sharp, 2w/5l, 116/144, -28.
Damian Jardine, 4w/3l, 141/116, +25.
Rod Kerrison, 3w/4l, 149/135, +14.
Don Casey, 2w/1t/4l, 141/122, +19.
Jeff Cook, 3w/4l, 151/140, +11.
Jim Gregoery, 4w/3l, 134/161, -27.
John Head, 4w/3l, 131/133, -2
Leo Bosso, 4w/1l, 135/87, +48.
Glenn Lyons, 3w/2l, 112/104, +8.
Brian Tipping, 2w/3l, 114/87, +27.
Rebecca Merrick, 2w/3l, 112/92, +20. NB: Third side had 1 bye and 1 heat out.
Paul Gregory, 4w/2l, 122/108, +14.
Colin McDonald, 3w/3l, 117/111, +6.
Luke Roche, 3w/3l, 109/127, -18.
Bruce McDonald, 3w/3l, 115/106, +9. NB: Fourth side had 1 washout.
So there you are, the truth of it at Round 7, putting the First side in 2nd place, the Second side in 6th, the Third side in 2nd and the Fourth side 3rd.
Round 7 itself was a tough round with the weather conditions once again having a say. In fact the Fourth side missed out on a game because their opponent closed their green mid-morning and the Clubs shared the points with 9 each.
The First side played top of the ladder, Diamond Creek and came away with a two up, two down loss.
Margaret Hunt, Veronika Crea, Warren Williams and Alan Mason, 20-18.
Dan Hartrick, John Aldridge, Robbie Boxshall and Rowan Sharp, 19-17.
Matty Ferguson, Kevin Meade, Damian Crea and Damian Jardine, 16-18.
Mil Crea, Peter Livingstone, Marcus Hadley and Rod Kerrison, 11-27.
Rosanna 66, D Creek 80, -14. Next week play Ivanhoe at Ivanhoe, who are 5th.
The Second side went to Templestowe and found it hard to contend with a very difficult green, managing only one winning rink.
Gwenda Bail, Jack Dunbar, Colin Watson and Don Casey, 14-21.
Debbie Jeong, Nicole Carriero, Steve Kovac and Jeff Cook, 16-21.
Fiona Tennant, Chris Ball, Kay Plain and Jim Gregory, 22-21.
Graeme Bravo, John Couling, Graham Bright and John Head, 12-29.
Rosanna 64, Templestowe 92, -28. Next week play Greensborough who are 4th, at home.
The Third side played Epping RSL and had a two up, two down victory.
Neil Andrewartha, Ray Prestney, Simon Matthews and Leo Bosso, 28-14.
Michelle Robertson, Gae Messina, Ralph Moulden and Glenn Lyons, 15-25.
Noel Broadhurst, Paul Bassett, Denis Swift and Brian Tipping, 26-16.
Robin Doherty, John Tannock, Jane Edgcumbe and Bec Merrick, 17-20.
Rosanna 86, Epping RSL 75. +11. Next week play Lalor (4th) at Lalor.
Best Winning Rink was Neil Andrewartha, Ray Prestney, Simon Matthews and Leo Bosso with 14 shots up.
The Milestones this weekend were Veronika Crea, 50 weekend games, Steve Kovac 200 weekend games, Mil Crea, 100 Club games and Robbie Boxshall 100 Club games. Congratulations on your achievements and may there be many more ahead of you.
So, there it is for the first half. Let’s look forward to the second half with great enthusiasm and great expectation of what this Club can achieve.
And here is something for you to ponder – war does not determine who is right, only who is left.
Keep ’em rolling.
The Lizard.
