Hello Bowlers,
An “interesting” week for the Rosanna Bowling Club, I am told. Due to the Third side having a bye, we were finally able to put the Fifth side onto the green, only to be informed on Friday that their opponent, West Coburg, could not put a team together, therefore we received a walkover, and 16 points. It was disappointing for the Rosanna people who were keen to play, but after four rounds gaining two walkovers, and having to give two walkovers, the side sits in 5th place on the ladder, one point behind fourth placed North Balwyn, and not a bowl delivered. It will be interesting to see what happens this coming weekend as the numbers available do not look good.
So, with the Threes having a lay day, we sent the Ones to Bundoora, and the Twos and Fours entertained Bundoora and Camberwell Central respectively, at Rosanna.
It was excellent to see the First side account for their Bundoora opponent in a comprehensive fashion. Three rinks won, two by very good margins and one just getting over the line. The losing rink came from a 12 – 0 deficit to have the score tied at the 20th end, however, had the misfortune of going down by 6. Rosanna scored 16 points from the day’s activities and it puts them in third place on 44 points. Next week they will host Hurstbridge who are on 42 points.
Margaret Hunt, Veronika Crea, Warren Williams and Alan Mason, 20 – 26, minus 6.
Chris Ball, Dan Hartrick, Peter Livingstone and Rowan Sharp, 18 – 17, plus 1.
Matty Ferguson, Kevin Meade, Marcus Hadley and Damian Jardine, 26 – 8, plus 18.
Mil Crea, Robbie Boxshall, Damian Crea and Rod Kerrison, 33 – 8, plus 25.
Rosanna 97, Bundoora 59. plus 38, 16 points.
The Second side welcomed a Bundoora side, and comfortably accounted for them with three rinks up and one down. The win promoted Rosanna to 5th spot on the ladder with 36 points. Next week they will visit East Ivanhoe who are below them on 26 points. Hopefully another win might boost them into the top four.
Gwenda Bail, Jack Dunbar, Colin Watson and Don Casey, 25 – 10, plus 15.
Debbie Jeong, Nicole Carriero, Steve Kovac and Jeff Cook, 16 -23, minus 7.
Michelle Robertson, Fiona Tennant, John Aldridge and Jim Gregory, 23 -20, plus 3.
Graeme Bravo, John Couling, Graham Bright and John Head, 26 – 13, plus 13.
Rosanna 90, Bundoora 66, plus 24, 16 points.
The Third side currently sit at fourth on 34 points and next week play Strathmore (4 points) at home.
Our Fourth side had a visit from Camberwell Central on Saturday and missed out winning by two shots. Two rinks were up and two down and the match was in suspense until the very last end. It was quite tense and during the course of the end, both sides held shot at different times. Rosanna prevailed with one shot after the last bowl had been delivered, but not enough to bridge the gap. It was a good effort and kept the crowd entertained.
Tim Pullyblank, Terrye Meade, Russell Hyde and Paul Gregory, 19 -23, minus 4.
Noel Broadhurst, Trevor Robertson, Bec Merrick and Colin McDonald, 21 -13, plus 8.
Robin Doherty, Bob Dunbar, Jane Edgecumbe and Luke Roche, 21 – 18, plus 3.
Mick Tilley, Alan Phillips, Peter Bell and Bruce McDonald, 14 – 23, minus 9.
Rosanna 75, Camberwell Central 77, minus 2, 4 points.
This puts the Fourth side in 4th spot on the ladder with 36 points, and next week they will play Templestowe (17 points) at Templestowe.
If Rosanna can get a Fifth side on the green, they will play Montmorency at Rosanna.
The best winning rink on the day was that of Mil Crea, Robbie Boxshall, Damian Crea and Rod Kerrison, with a very creditable 25 shots up. Well done indeed.
There were no milestones attained this weekend.
So, keep at it people, we are not that far away from doing great things at Rosanna this season, and here is something for you to ponder…..
Where there’s a will… I want to be in it.
Keep ’em rolling.
The Lizard.
