Hello Bowlers,
I heard that the week may have begun in a rather dissonant manner, which would be a little disappointing, however, common sense prevailed and the result was morphed on the playing field, with the First, Third and Fourth sides having good wins, and consolidating places in the ladder. With 35% of this year’s season now completed, Rosanna’s five sides (yes even the Fifth side who have not yet put down a bowl in anger) are all in contention to play finals. That would be a magnificent Club goal to achieve. Is it worth having a go for, do you think?
Yesterday the First side did battle at home with Hurstbridge, and in what is always a keen contest Rosanna came up winners with two up and two down by narrow margins. The team collected 14 points which places them in second place on the ladder with 58 points. Next week we play Eltham 1 at Eltham. They are placed 3rd on the ladder with 54 points, so it is sure to be a very keen contest.
Margaret Hunt, Veronika Crea, Warren Williams and Alan Mason, 25 – 13 plus 12.
Dan Hartrick, John Aldridge, Peter Livingstone and Rowan Sharp, 15 -17 minus 2.
Matty Ferguson, Kevin Meade, Marcus Hadley and Damian Jardine, 20 – 11 plus 9.
Mil Crea, Peter Burke, Damian Crea and Rod Kerrison, 22 – 27 minus 5.
Rosanna 82, Hurstbridge 68, plus 14, 14 points. Well done Ones.
The Second side went to East Ivanhoe and had a rather indifferent day. They fought hard, but fell short by 12 shots earning 3 points, and they now sit in 6th place on the ladder with 39 points. They have a big opportunity to improve on this next week when they play Eltham 2 at home. Eltham are in 8th place with 23 points.
Gwenda Bail, Jack Dunbar, Colin Watson and Don Casey tied 17 all.
Debbie Jeong, Louisa Hemingway, Steve Kovac and Jeff Cook, 27 – 14 plus 13.
Michelle Robertson, Fiona Tennant, Simon Matthews and Jim Gregory, 12 – 35 minus 23.
Greame Bravo, John Couling, Graham Bright and John Head, 13 – 15 minus 2.
Rosanna 69, East Ivanhoe 81, minus 12, 3 points.
The Third side played Strathmore at home and had a sweet 18 shot win with 2 rinks up and two down. The 14 points gained sees the Threes holding 3rd position on the ladder with 48 points. Next week they travel to Broadmeadows who are placed 6th on 23 points, so it will be interesting going into new territory, but I am confidant the Goanna’s will hold their nerve and prevail.
Lorraine Campbell, Ray Prestney, Kay Plain and Leo Bosso, 17 – 21 minus 4.
Robin Doherty, Gae Messina, Ralph Moulden and Glenn Lyons, 23 – 13 plus 10.
Noel Broadhurst, Paul Bassett, Denis Swift, Brian Tipping, 19 -21 minus 2.
Trevor Robertson, Tim Pullyblank, Jane Edgcumbe and Bec Merrick, 27 – 13 plus 14.
Rosanna 86, Strathmore 68, plus 18, 14 points.
The Fourth side went to the village of Templestowe and had a stunning four rink, 30 shots up victory. At one point there was a scare that Rosanna may have had to play two short, however, that hiccup was averted and the team put together a great win to grab 18 points and third spot on the ladder with 54 points. Next week they will take on Box Hill RSL 2 at home. BHRSL are 5th on the ladder on 37 points.
Gerry Sheean, Rob Barclay, Russell Hyde and Paul Gregory, 29 – 11 plus 18.
Mick Tilley, Terrye Meade, Kale Files and Colin McDonald, 27 -12 plus 15.
Bob Dunbar, Cory Quilliam, John Tannock and Eddie Sheean, 19 – 16 plus 3.
Tony Canty, Alan Phillips, Peter Bell and Bruce McDonald, 23 – 19 plus 4.
Rosanna 88, Templestowe 58, plus 30, 18 points.
Now the Fifth side had to forfeit their game against Montmorency because Rosanna had 22 players unavailable this weekend. Be that as it may, the side is in 6th position on 32 points without putting a bowl down, courtesy of receiving two walkovers ourselves. It would be tremendous if we could field the Fifth side, however, what will be will be.
The best winning rink this week was Gerry Sheean, Rob Barclay, Russell Hyde and Paul Gregory with 18 shots up. Well done boys.
We had two milestone celebrations to acknowledge this week. The lovable little rascal, Bob Dunbar, played his 650th weekend game for Rosanna, and MPO Extraordinaire, Glenn Lyons, his 300th weekend game. Congratulations gentlemen, well played.
And here is something for you to ponder – Since light travels faster than sound, some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
Keep ’em rolling.
