Round Eight Weekend Pennant

Hello Bowlers,

The first of the return rounds has been completed with mixed results for Rosanna.  The two at home sides won, whilst the two away sides incurred losses.  I am told it was another frustrating weekend as unavailability and late illnesses, almost left Rosanna one player short, however, a last minute resurrection saved the day, and Rosanna was able to field the required 64 players for the weekend’s battles.  Funny game this, of 80 plus names that went up pre-season as being available to play weekend pennant, the club never got to field its Fifth team, and had to finally withdraw the side, and for the last three weeks at least, has struggled to fill its Fourth side, playing one short on one Saturday recently.  As an observer, I fully accept that injury and illness are a fair excuse for non-appearance, and perhaps I have to accept the realisation that we are living in a new era, and people’s lifestyles have a different meaning in this day and age.  Enough of my prattle, and on to yesterday’s results.

The First side went to Ivanhoe (5th) and had an unhappy day with only one rink getting up, earning Rosanna 2 points, but keeping them in 2nd place on the ladder with 80 points.

Margaret Hunt, Chris Ball, Warren Williams and Alan Mason, 15-23, -8.

Dan Hartrick, John Aldridge, Rowan Sharp and Robbie Boxshall, 10-21, -11.

Matty Ferguson, Kevin Meade, Damian Crea and Damian Jardine, 18-20, -2.

Mil Crea, Peter Livingstone, Marcus Hadley and Rod Kerrison, 20-14, +6.

Rosanna 63, Ivanhoe 78, -15.

Next week play Greensborough 1 (3rd) at Rosanna.

The Second side took on Greensborough and came out on top with two rinks up and two down, with an overall 15 shots up.  It was a satisfying win as the side went down to the ‘Boro’ in the opening round.  The 14 points gained lifts Rosanna to 5th spot.

Gwenda Bail, Jack Dunbar, Colin Watson and Don Casey, 20-21, -1.

Debbie Jeong, Tim Pullyblank, Steve Kovac and Jeff Cook, 28-14, +14.

Ray Prestney, Fiona Tennant, Kay Plain and Jim Gregory, 29-16, +13.

Graeme Bravo, John Couling, Graham Bright and John Head, 14-25, -11.

Rosanna 91, Greensborough 76, +15.

Next week play Montmorency 3 (6th) at Montmorency.

The Third side travelled to Lalor and also had an unhappy day, securing only 2 points from the afternoon’s contest.  However, they do retain 2nd place on the ladder with 71 points.

Lorraine Campbell, Terrye Meade, Simon Matthews and Leo Bosso, 19-16, +3.

Bob Dunbar, Gae Messina, Ralph Moulden and Glenn Lyons, 12-32, -20.

Noel Broadhurst, Paul Bassett, Gary Veale and Denis Swift, 19-29, -10.

Robin Doherty, John Tannock, Jane Edgcumbe and Bec Merrick, 15-17, -2.

Rosanna 65, Lalor 94, -29.

Next week play Kingsbury 3 (4th) at Rosanna.

The Fourth side played North Balwyn at home in an almost repeat of the first round played at North Balwyn, where Rosanna was successful by 3 shots.  Yesterday they were successful by 1 shot.  Going into the last end for each of the four rinks, Rosanna was three shots down on the BIG BOARD.  Each of the Rosanna rinks won their last end by one shot, the total of four putting the Goannas in front and claiming the victory.  A great win for the team and the 14 points gained sees them holding on to 4th position on 79 points.

Trevor Robertson, Gerry Sheean, Russell Hyde and Paul Gregory, 20-27, -7.

Tony Canty, Cory Quilliam, Kale Files and Colin McDonald, 12-32,  -20.

Alan Phillips, Michelle Robertson, Luke Roche and Eddie Sheean, 18-14, +4.

Kevin Nelson, Graham Howard, Peter Bell and Bruce McDonald, 32-8, +24.

Rosanna 82, North Balwyn 81, +1.

Next week play Doncaster 3 (3rd) at Doncaster.

The best winning rink yesterday was Kevin Nelson, Graham Howard, Peter Bell and Bruce McDonald with plus 24.  Well done gents.

The only milestone for this round was John Head, who played his 450th Club game.  Well done John, and it is hoped that there will be many more aHEAD.

That wraps up Round 8, and with one round to go before the Christmas break, let Rosanna go into the furlough with four wins.

And here is something for you to ponder – Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit.  Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.

Keep ’em rolling.
