The final round of Midweek Pennant has now been completed and we have one Rosanna side playing finals next Tuesday. It has been a bit of a struggle this season and our Second and Third sides will be relegated. The First side will go in with the double chance, however, we believe we won’t need it even though we will play next week’s game at Moonee Valley. Should the unthinkable happen we will play the winner of the Ivanhoe v Preston-Reservoir game on Thursday 26th at Rosanna.
In today’s games the First side was given a walkover by Flemington-Kensington. For whatever reason they did not want to come to Rosanna. Personally I think it is a bit pathetic, but who am I to pass comment?
The Second side played at Greensborough and lost all rinks. Unfortunately they finished in 8th position and will be relegated.
The Third side fared little better at home in picking up 2 points in their defeat at the hands of Bundoora. They too finished in 8th spot.
It is hard fielding three sides on a Tuesday, however, the Club wants to give available players every opportunity to play the game, and is grateful to those who come out each week.
There was one Milestone today and congratulations go to Alan Phillips who has put together 150 Midweek Pennant games. Good on you Alan, let’s try for another 150.
Today’s best winning rink went to Paul Gregory, Sam Mercadante, Sean Ryan and Rob Hunt, who were in fact the only winning rink.
If anyone reads the news items on this website, you would see where I put in a few stats for the Saturday pennant blurb, so I thought I would do the same for the Midweekers.
On the BV Players Ladder Division 2, Section 2, the first four places are held by Rosanna players. Equal 1st – Gwenda Bail and Warren Williams, 3rd Kevin Meade and 4th Margaret Hunt. Nobody from Rosanna featured in the Second and Third sides ladders.
Side 1: Best winning margin 56 shots R8. Worst losing margin 10 shots R7. Biggest winning streak 5 games. Worst losing streak 1 game. Won 10, lost 2, two games heat/wash out. 17 different players used. Second position on ladder
Side 2: Best winning margin – nil. Worst losing margin 60 shots R10. Biggest winning streak – nil. Worst losing streak 12 games. Won 0, lost 12, two unplayed. 28 different players used. Eighth position on ladder.
Side 3: Best winning margin 29 shots R8. Worst losing margin 41 shots R1. Biggest winning streak 2 games. Worst losing streak 5 games. Won 4, lost 9, one game unplayed. 25 different players used. Eighth position on ladder
This afternoon Kevin Meade hosted the Midweek Most Valuable Player presentation. He did a great job notwithstanding the computer glitches. Congratulations go to Damian Crea who took out the big award with 25.6 votes, 1.6 ahead of Alan Mason on 24. They were followed by Jim Gregory (22), Rob Hunt (18), Glenn Lyons and Warren Williams (17.3), Kevin Meade and Ed Sheean (14.6), Terrye Meade (12) and rounding out the Top Ten, Mil Crea (11.6).
So, that’s a wrap for most of the Midweekers, however, those representing the Club next Tuesday would love to see some Rosanna support, so how about a couple of car pools, and having a little outing to the Moonee Valley Bowling Club, to help the Ones stick it up them.
In signing off this week, remember what I keep saying, “the reward of a thing well done, is to have done it”.
Let’s all do it. See ya!
The Tout.
