Round 13 of Midweek Pennant has been completed and the picture is clear for the Rosanna teams. With one round still to be played, side 1 will contest finals, sides 2 and 3 will be relegated. Sure, it is somewhat disappointing that the twos and the threes did not fare a little better, but they tried hard, sometimes against far superior opposition, and were proud to represent the Rosanna Bowling Club, and next week we will be all out to get three sides over the line to finish the season on a high note.
Today the Third side went up to Whittlesea, but could not pick up any points, and went down by 27 shots. Ed Sheean, Gae Messina, Sue Lindley and Terrye Meade had a tough day finishing 22 shots adrift. Paul Gregory, Sam Mercadante, Ray Prestney and Rob Hunt only missed out by three shots. Russell Hyde, Phil Hynes, Don Cowen and Robin Doherty were the closest with 2 shots down.
Rosanna 40, Whittlesea 67.
We are in 8th position 10 points behind Bundoora, who we play next Tuesday. If we pick up 14 points, we can jump them and finish 7th. It will not stave off relegation, but we would not finish last. Worth having a red hot go.
The Second side played Whittlesea, at Rosanna, and managed 2 points with one winning rink. Kay Plain, Leo Bosso, Rob Barclay and Chris Pyke missed out by 14 shots. Jim Gregory, Colin Watson, Sean Ryan and Alan Phillips fell short by 2 shots. Glenn Lyons, Peter Bell, Don Varalla and Paul Bassett were victorious with 6 shots up.
Rosanna 49, Whittlesea 59.
Next week we play Greensborough (4th) at the Boro. This side will also be relegated next season.
The First side went to City of Heidelberg who were quite low on the ladder, however, not to be underestimated, as their green is always difficult to master. Fortunately we came away with a 16 shot, 14 points win, which has made things interesting because top side Moonee Valley had a draw with City of Melbourne, but only collected 7 points, leaving us 15 points behind them. It would be a long shot, but the door is ever so slightly ajar for Rosanna to pinch top spot. We play 6th placed Flemington/Kensington (78), Moonee Valley play 3rd placed Ivanhoe (145). We grab 16 points, MV zip, and we are in. Never say never.
Damian Crea, Jeff Cook, Chris Ball and Mil Crea went down by 10. Alan Mason, Don Casey, Veronika Crea and Jack Dunbar were up by 9. Warren Williams, Margaret Hunt, Kevin Meade and Gwenda Bail blitzed, winning by 17 shots.
Rosanna 66, City of Heidelberg 50.
Today’s best winning rink went to Warren Williams, Margaret Hunt, Kevin Meade and Gwenda Bail, 17 plus. Well done (again).
There were two significant milestones today, and our congratulations go to Russell Hyde who played his 800th Club game, and to Gae Messina who tallied up her 350th Club game. Sterling effort folks, indeed.
Don’t forget, after next Tuesday’s game Kevin Meade will be presenting the Midweek MVP award. Please put your name on the list on the notice board inside the clubrooms, to help with catering.
In signing off this week, remember what I keep saying, “the reward of a thing well done, is to have done it”.
Let’s all do it, and what about Rob Barclay who was overheard telling Paul Bassett, “I just ordered a life alert bracelet so if I get a life, I’ll be notified immediately”. See ya!
The Tout.
