Round 10 Weekend Pennant

Hello Bowlers,

I hope you enjoyed your 35 day break from competitive bowling, and I hope you enjoyed your Christmas, and I hope you enjoyed your New Year, and if you went on holiday I hope you enjoyed that.  However, that is all over and done with now, and yesterday saw us back into the real stuff with Round 10 now completed.  The results from yesterday have not changed the situation regarding our four sides in that we still have three of them in the four, and one out.  What yesterday did do was to see a firmer hold for the one’s and four’s, not much change for the three’s, but a slightly harder exercise for the two’s to make it four out of four.  Not impossible for them, but reliant on their winning and teams above them losing.  With four rounds left to play we hope we can get it right.

So, this is how it looks.  Side 1 play Bundoora (H), Hurstbridge (A), Eltham (H) and Diamond Creek (A).  Only Diamond Creek are above them on the ladder.

Side 2 play Bundoora (A), East Ivanhoe (H), Eltham (A) and Templestowe (H).  Bundoora and Templestowe are above them.

Side 3 have a Bye next week then play Strathmore (A), Broadmeadows (H) and Epping (A) all three of those sides below Rosanna.

Side 4 play Camberwell Central (A), Templestowe (H), Box Hill RSL (A) and Auburn (H).  Only Auburn are above Rosanna on the ladder.

So, great opportunities to firmly entrench our sides in finals, but certainly not the time to become complacent.  Still much hard work to be done, with satisfying rewards to be had.  Let’s make it a big year for the Goannas.  The sweat will be worth it.

And so to yesterday’s doings.  The Number 1 side had a spectacular win at Montmorency.  With one end to be played Montmorency were four shots up overall, and holding one at the head when first time young skip, Marcus Hadley, stepped up to the mat and with his first delivery put down the perfect bowl.  He trailed the jack to a position which gave Rosanna 5 shots and at that point, the match.  His opposing skipper was ineffectual with his second bowl and Marcus’s team mates wisely advised him to put his second bowl in his pocket.  The young buck listened and it was game over.  Well done Ones.

Margaret Hunt, Chris Ball, Warren Williams and Alan Mason, 15-22, minus 7.

Dan Hartrick, Debbie Jeong, Rowan Sharp and Marcus Hadley, 28-17, plus 11.

Matty Ferguson, Kevin Meade, Damian Crea and Damian Jardine, 17-14, plus 3.

Mil Crea, Fiona Tennant, John Aldridge and Rod Kerrison, 15-21, minus 6.

Rosanna 75, Montmorency 74, plus 1, 14 points, 2nd on ladder.

The Second side hosted Kingsbury and fought hard to gain the win, but ultimately fell short by 11 shots.

Gwenda Bail, Alan Phillips, Colin Watson and Don Casey, 11-24, minus 13.

Ian Crawford, Veronika Crea, Steve Kovac and Jeff Cook, 26-20, plus 6.

Ray Prestney, John Couling, Kay Plain and Jim Gregory, 22-13, plus 9.

Graeme Bravo, Tim Pullyblank, Graham Bright and John Head, 11-24, minus 13.

Rosanna 70, Kingsbury 81, minus 11, 4 points, 5th on ladder.

The Third side had to venture to Wallan in the extremities, to face the leader of the Section.  They too fought hard, however, the home side prevailed by 10 shots at the end of the day.

Neil Andrewartha, Terrye Meade, Simon Matthews and Leo Bosso, 9-28, minus 19.

Don Varalla, Bob Dunbar, Rob Barclay and Glenn Lyons, 26-16, plus 10.

Sam Mercadante, Paul Bassett, Gary Veale and Brian Tipping, 13-22, minus 9.

Jack Dunbar, Robin Doherty, Jane Edgcumbe and Rebecca Merrick, 23-15, plus 8.

Rosanna 71, Wallan 81, minus 10, 4 points, 2nd on ladder.

The Fourth side hosted Donvale who were 2nd on the ladder and probably favourites to win, however, Rosanna was having none of it and in a tight match came out on top with two rinks up and two down.  It was a credit to the team which saw many changes to it before getting out onto the green.

Trevor Robertson, Gerry Sheean, Russell Hyde and Paul Gregory, 27-11, plus 16.

Cory Quilliam, John Tannock, Gae Messina and Tony Campbell-Burns, 17-20, minus 3.

Bob Langdon, Michelle Robertson, Luke Roche and Eddie Sheean, 15-21, minus 6.

Kevin Nelson, Kale Files, Peter Bell and Bruce McDonald, 16-14, plus 2.

Rosanna 75, Donvale 66, plus 9, 14 points, 4th on ladder.

The best winning rink went to Paul Gregory, Russell Hyde, Gerry Sheean and Trevor Robertson with a very nice 16 shots up.  A great way for Trevor to celebrate his Birthday.

There were a number of Milestones yesterday for people within the Club.

Sam Mercadante and Don Varalla played their first club game for Rosanna.  Tony Campbell-Burns played his first weekend game and his first game as a skipper.  Marcus Hadley played his first game as a skipper, and at 19 would be, I believe, the youngest person ever to skip a rink in the No.1 side at Rosanna.  Jim Gregory played his 250th weekend pennant game and, the big one, Colin Watson tallied up his 600th club game for Rosanna.  Well done indeed to all those gents and the Club hopes there are many more to come.

Next week 1’s play Bundoora 3 at home.  2’s play Bundoora 4 away.  3’s have a Bye, and 4’s play Camberwell Central 2 away.  Heads down and posteriors up and three out of three would be an excellent result, and that’s the wrap for this week.

And something for you to ponder as you head into next week – Women will never be equal to men until they can walk down the street with a bald head and a beer gut, and still think they are sexy.

Keep ’em rolling.

Well, here we go. The final home and away game for the 2024-25 season. But it is never too late to stop doing the same over and over if you are not getting the different result you hoped to achieve. Bad habit means many tend to make the same mistakes over and over...
