Rosanna’s Midweek 2nd side played its Section Grand Final yesterday against City of Heidelberg, at Ivanhoe Bowling Club. It was a very keen contest which had the spectators on their toes until the very last end of the match. Two rinks had finished their game with a two shot up, and a two shot down result. The third rink still had two ends to play and Rosanna was down by 4 shots. With one end to play, Rosanna was down by 1 shot.
The last end saw the holding at the head change three times as the leads and seconds delivered their bowls in turn. Rosanna was holding shot in what was heading toward an extra end to decide the winner, however, the C of H third trailed the jack to give them the upper hand. The Rosanna skip played two good shots, but could not convert and the opposition took the end by one shot, to give City of Heidelberg a two shot win.
Although our team lost on the day, they have had an excellent season and have earned a promotion to Division 3 next season.. The Club congratulates the side’s effort yesterday, and thanks all players for their contribution throughout the season. Thanks too to Kay Plain who managed the side and to Paul Bassett who acted as the reserve player, but was not called upon to take to the green.
Rosanna 54, City of Heidelberg 56, -2
The best winning rink was Jim Gregory, Paul Gregory, Ed Sheean and Rob Barclay, +2.
Our attention now turns to the Third side who will play their section Grand Final next Tuesday, 11 March, against Kingsbury. The venue still has not been advised by Bowls Victoria, however, it would be very pleasing to see as many Rosanna supporters as possible at the contest.
Keep ’em rolling.
