The first week of Midweek Pennant finals has been held, with three Rosanna teams taking part in the proceedings. Unfortunately one of our sides will no longer be a part of the Series, however, the other two sides have gone straight into the Final for their respective Section.
The First side came up against Preston- Reservoir, whom they had narrowly beaten in both their games during the season, however, on this occasion the opposition proved too strong, and in a hard fought contest, went down by 11 shots.
Gwenda Bail, Kevin Meade, Jeff Cook and Damian Crea, 18-23, -5.
Chris Ball, Tony Campbell-Burns, Mil Crea and Alan Mason, 22-25, -3.
Jack Dunbar, Margaret Hunt, John Aldridge and Warren Williams, 20-23, -3.
Rosanna 60, Preston-Reservoir 71, -11.
Well done to all those who represented Rosanna in the No.1 Side throughout the year. It was a great contribution and your efforts are appreciated.
The Twos played City of Heidelberg and were standing at one win each during the home and away rounds, each win on the home turfs. At Rosanna yesterday we had two rinks up and one down. There was enough in it for Rosanna to prevail by 9 shots, putting them straight into the final next Tuesday.
Rob Barclay, Ed Sheean, Paul Gregory and Jim Gregory, 27-17, +12.
Paul Bassett, Nicole Carriero, Veronika Crea and Leo Bosso, 17-25, -8.
Robin Doherty, Colin Watson, Peter Bell and Glenn Lyons, 23-18, +5.
Rosanna 67, City of Heidelberg 58, +9. Next Tuesday, 11 March, play either City of Heidelberg, or Ivanhoe, venue to be advised.
The Third side played Bundoora in a very tight game. During the season Rosanna won by one shot at Bundoora, and they won by 16 shots at Rosanna. It was always going to be a keen match in the semi final. There was not much between the two sides all day, and the day was not without its drama. One Bundoora player had not turned up when play commenced, causing them to frantically search for a replacement, causing Kay Plain’s rink to start well behind the other two. Then, during the course of the afternoon, Ken Barr, in Don Casey’s rink, succumbed to the heat, and was replaced by Ralph Moulden. That rink had been traveling nicely, holding a 5 shot advantage at the break, but getting the wobbles after the disruption. Fortunately they rallied and got over the line by three shots. John Head’s rink got away to a very good start, had a little hiccup then held firm and virtually balanced Kay’s rink with shots up and shots down. Going into the last end with only 2 shots up on the big scoreboard, and with a big crowd watching, we saw Rosanna holding, then Bundoora, then Rosanna. But, it was a likely measure. Kay put down the last bowl of the match, drew the shot and Rosanna had two to make it an overall win by 4 shots. A great result putting the team straight into the final, which will be against Bundoora, or Kingsbury, depending on who wins next Tuesday. The Final will be on the 11th March, at a venue to be decided.
Noel Broadhurst, Russell Hyde, Ray Prestney and Kay Plain, 16-24, -8.
Alan Phillips, Tony Canty, Ken Barr/Ralph Moulden and Don Casey, 21-18, +3.
Terrye Meade, Rob Hunt, Phil Hynes and John Head, 24-15, +9.
Rosanna 61, Bundoora 57, +4.
Congratulations to the Two’s and Three’s on making the Final. Well done to all players and the Club’s very best wishes for success in the big one.
The best winning rink yesterday went to Jim Gregory, Paul Gregory, Ed Sheean and Rob Barclay, 12 shots up. Well done gents.
There was one Milestone to be celebrated yesterday, and that was the 200th Midweek Pennant game played for Rosanna by Jack Dunbar. Congratulations Jack, a sterling effort indeed.
So Bowlers, if you can please show up next Tuesday, 4th March, to support our Second side in their quest for a Pennant flag for Rosanna. Details of the venue will be advised as soon as known. Until then,
Keep ’em rolling.
