Strewth! When I came back from the dead – you know – when the handsome prince woke me with a kiss after one hundred years of blissful repose, I didn’t realise I had to work twice as hard the second time around. Not only do I have to keep you informed about what goes on on a Saturday, and a Tuesday, but now they want me to fill you in on other things too.
But I don’t mind because I am aroused. Yes, I am really excited and I hope you will be too. For the first time since Adam was a boy, Rosanna Bowling Club has stepped up big time in the Yarra Region Fours events. Not just the guys, but the girls as well.
Last Sunday twelve of our men, and four of our women proudly wore the Goanna shirt to represent RBC in a great day of bowling.
The guys lined up as follows: (L) Mil Crea, (2nd) Alan Mason, (3rd) Phil McMahon, (S) Rod Kerrison;
John Head, Simon Matthews, Warren Williams, Damian Crea;
Matty Ferguson, Dan Hartrick, Andrew Dalli, Aaron Van Haaften.
Our girls played in composite sides with Margaret Hunt and Rachael Powers teaming up with ladies from Alphington and Donvale, whilst Lorraine Campbell and Veronika Crea teamed up with ladies from Donvale and Montmorency.
Because of the draw, Rod’s team had to play an early game against a strong rink from Alphington, and won very well, 14 – 10. The afternoon games saw all 16 Rosanna players on Camberwell Central. In their second game, Rod’s rink came up against a very hot Ivanhoe four, and went down by 8 shots (11 – 19). Damian’s rink played a four from Hurstbridge and blitzed. There was no holding back with this lot and they won by 11 shots (20 – 9) Aaron’s group matched skills with a four from MCC, and it was a thriller. They greeted the judge by a nose with a one shot victory (14 – 13).
Not to be outdone the girls came to the fore also. Marg and Rach helped their team to an eight shot win over last year’s runner-up, City of Heidelberg, (18 – 10) and Lorraine and Von helped their team get over a very competitive Ivanhoe team, in another high class thriller, by 1 shot (13 – 12) .
What a fantastic result for our teams, and you can see why I am excited. So, next Sunday it’s into finals for these warriors, again at Camberwell Central and commencing at 11:00am. Wouldn’t it be encouraging for our players to see some Rosanna supporters to give them a lift? How about you get aroused too and even if it was for half an hour, the showing would be well met.
In signing off, I’m thinking that my little quote each issue, might be starting to bear some fruit, particularly for the sixteen who went out there at the start. “The reward of a thing well done, is to have done it”.
Let’s all do it, and what about Andrew Dalli’s philosophical reflection, heard on the green Sunday, “When we build, let us think that we build forever.” Was he talking about the head?
The Tout.
