First Finals

Hello Bowlers

The first day of finals for the weekend pennant competition was conducted yesterday with Rosanna featuring through the representation of their First and Third teams. In an ugly day weather wise, and result wise, the First side went to Greensborough, starting early to beat the heat. Unfortunately, they did not fare well and all four rinks went down. As the first semi is an elimination final, Rosanna Ones have now bowed out, finishing fourth in their section. Notwithstanding the result, the team had a reasonable year and has maintained its place in Division Two. Well done to all those players who represented the Goannas throughout the year, and the Club applauds your effort.

Margaret Hunt, Chris Ball, Warren Williams and Alan Mason, 16-30, -14.

Dan Hartrick, Peter Livingstone, Rowan Sharp and Marcus Hadley, 16-20, -4.

Damian Crea, Kevin Meade, Matty Ferguson and Damian Jardine, 14-19, -5.

Mil Crea, Peter Burke, Robbie Boxshall and Rod Kerrison, 15-19, -4.

Rosanna 61, Greensborough 88, -27.

The Third side traveled up to Wallan where the conditions were appalling. Strong, hot, swirly, gusting wind, super fast synthetic green and heat, all combined to make it a tough day for Rosanna. At one stage it looked like it may have been a complete rout for the Goannas, however, Leo Bosso’s rink did a “Lazarus” from the previous week where they were beaten by 28 shots, and won by 27 making it a 55 shot turnaround. Brian Tipping’s rink were 13 shots down (2-15) at the break after 10 ends, and came back refreshed to limit the opposition to 2 shots whilst picking up 16 for themselves, to win by 1 shot. A spectacular turnaround. Jack Dunbar decided to throw a wobbly in his rink and trick the opposition, however, after the appropriate medical attention, he refused to be replaced by an eager Alan Phillips, and went back to finish the game. So, the day had a bit of everything, however, the end result was a loss to Rosanna, which means they will now confront Lalor, who beat Kingsbury in the 1st SF, next Saturday, at Rosanna.

Paul Bassett, Terrye Meade, Simon Matthews and Leo Bosso, 27-18, +9.

Bob Dunbar, Ralph Moulden, Gary Veale and Glenn Lyons, 11-35, -24.

Noel Broadhurst, Ray Prestney, Denis Swift and Brian Tipping, 18-17, +1.

Jack Dunbar, Robin Doherty, Jane Edgcumbe and Bec Merrick, 16-22, -6.

Rosanna 72, Wallan 92, -20.

Best winning rink – Leo Bosso, Simon Matthews, Terrye Meade and Paul Bassett, 9 shots up.

Two significant Milestones occurred yesterday, Ray Prestney played his 700th Club game, and Damian Crea notched up his 400th Club game. Well done indeed Ray and Damian. Hope there are still many more to come.

So, only one game for Rosanna next Saturday and it is at home. We would like to see as many members, relatives, friends and hangers-on, turn out to support the team, and see us have a return bout with Wallan on neutral ground.

Keep ’em rolling.

The Lizard.
